SHEd President Mark Kern is a longtime school administrator. He retired in 2019, following service as principal at each of the Southern Hancock elementary schools during nearly two decades of service to our school community. He continues to work as a part-time associate pastor at Pleasant View Baptist Church, as a volunteer with the Hope Center Indy, and as a mentor with the Indiana New Administrator Leadership Institute. He and his wife, Pat, also a retired educator, have two adult children and six grandchildren. Interestingly, both of their children and their spouses are all educators!
Kim Taylor grew up in and graduated from New Palestine High School in 1981. After graduating from UIndy, she began an extensive career in sales. More recent, starting her own company, Taylor Financial Wellness, coaching families on managing their personal finances. Kim is very active in the community and volunteers within a variety of organizations. She understands the need to support and develop our teachers and provide the resource needed to expand their education.
Linda Fowler is a retired teacher who has lived in the area all her life. She taught Spanish and English as a second language to students in Wayne Township and worked at the IN Department of Education. She still serves as a bilingual translator for parent conferences. She was a volunteer EMT on the Fire Department for 23 years. She is committed to SHEd to maintain her focus on education and her community.
Joe Hercamp and his wife are 2003 graduates of New Palestine. He moved back to the district following the birth of his first child and currently has two elementary aged kids in the district. Joe joined SHEd as a board member to help where he can to provide what our teachers and school district need to successfully educate our students in pursuit of excellence.

Kelsey Wells is an alumnus of New Palestine High School. She was an elementary level teacher in the Franklin Township Schools, prior to taking on the career of being “Mom” to her young family.
Andrea Spencer is a local business person operating a LuLaRoe business. She is an active member of the officers’ team for the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.
Marji Legault is the Real Estate Broker and Managing Partner at Monteith Legault Real Estate Co. and Monteith Legault Design Company. Marji has 5 children and 9 grandchildren and has lived in New Palestine for the past 17 years. Marji inherently understands that supporting our teachers is critical to the success of our students, teachers and our community. Marji is driven to work towards growing awareness within the New Palestine community on the needs of our teachers and inspiring the support network to assist those who provide education for our youth.
Miles Hercamp is the ex-officio liaison between the Southern Hancock Schools and the Foundation. He is a busy man in the school community serving as the Director of Instruction, Director of Technology, and Director of School Safety. Miles was a long time teacher and administrator at New Palestine High School before moving to the Administrative Office team. He and his wife are New Pal residents with adult sons and several grandchildren.
Gary Halliburton is also a New Palestine graduate. Gary is the owner of Progressive Hair Designs. Gary is the immediate past president of the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving as an advisor. Gary is proud of his family, one son and one grandchild.
Caralee Griffith has over 15 years of experience in mental health and people-focused careers, with the last 2 years concentrated on senior living. Caralee developed her leadership and event management skills as the Executive Director of the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce. Caralee uses these skills to bring joy, smiles and lasting memories to the residents of all Justus Senior Living Communities through a variety of life enrichment opportunities. She is married to her husband Wayne and has one son in the Southern Hancock County School Corporation. They live in New Palestine. Caralee holds a BA degree in Psychology from Indiana University.
Loretta Forgey is a retired elementary school teacher in the New Palestine community. Before entering the teaching profession, Loretta was very active as a PTO officer at New Palestine Elementary. An original board member, Loretta served as the chairperson of the annual Gala fundraiser and foundation treasurer for many years. She and her husband, Mike, have raised three adult children who graduated from New Palestine High School. They also have two grandchildren.
Randy Faunce is the founder of the Foundation. An itinerant optometrist, Randy shares his talents around the state. He is active in many community activities as a New Palestine community member. He and his wife have two adult daughters.
